If you’re looking to run a strong line, one of the first things you’ll realize is that there are minor issues which create money problems for you. These metrics do shrink the packaging, and when you are able to adjust this, it benefits your personal cost savings. While it is pretty easy for you to miss a lot of these minor things, especially if you fail to look at all of these metrics, you could be wasting even more money. While at first these may not be much, guess what? They add up with time. it’s easy to ignore or miss a lot of these but what if there was a noise that screamed that hey, you’re missing out on saving a bit of cash? There is, and in fact, there have been…birds that are used, and they have helped some people with saving lots of money.
The Savings for the Birds
This is a bit interesting, and some people don’t realize that they’re wasting money until reading this. Think about wasted money. What does it sound like to you? What if, every time you wasted some money in some sort of way, you heard an annoying chirp of a bird, like those really loud ones that you hear first thing in the morning.
Think about the packaging line. What if, every time you messed up and wasted money, you heard that. You probably wouldn’t want to hear that right? The best sound to hear in your packaging line is one that’s got machines that are hissing, humming, and are clapping about, showing that the production is maximized. Think about the wasted money, how much that may sound a certain way. Make sense? You don’t want to hear the annoying birds, but instead, you want to reduce those packaging costs. Here, we’ll go over how you can do just that.
The parts of shrink packaging
Did you have an idea of the amount of quantity that you need for the shipments? Larger amounts reduce the costs, and this is something that a lot of people like, because you’ll be able to get things for better prices. Another big change that you should look at is the width of the film. Did you know that you may not need the full inch of the increment for the width? The big thing that people don't realize is that they’re actually wasting money thinking about this.
So if you change the width of the roll from let’s say a full inch to a half an inch smaller, you could see savings of up to 4.5% right away. For those that are running small productions, it doesn't really add up, but larger manufacturers are going to see some major changes. Then there is the film cutoff, or the bag length, which is the film that you take off from the package rolls. This is something that is put through a shrink machine, and then, it gets pulled off before it hits that shrink tunnel.
You can from there, before it goes through the tunnel, look at how big it is, and measure this. If you’re able to reduce this, it can save almost 10% of the costs! The birds will start to not chirp as much, and you’ll be able to save a lot of money and see the profits as well.
Shrink film is pricey, and you don’t want the annoying birds ruining it. Here, you learned of a few ways to save some costs, and also some important aspects to really help with making your business run better.
